Far, far away, in a Midwestern town in late winter, a wonderful event was happening in a small factory. As the cold wind blew across the flat, open land, a brand-new airplane named Tango was being fitted with its identification number plate. This was a big event for the little airplane because it was the final step before it was allowed to fly. This particular plane's identification number, or ID for short, was 1228, its date of manufacture. The little plane was checked, inspected, and labeled as Airworthy. He was ready to take to the skies.

As a pilot for 18 years including work as an airline captain and flight instructor, I've observed a wide variety of flying styles. I got a kick out of the the way the author represented different types of pilots from thorough to loose preflight/checklist users, to professional pilots in training, and the addition of adrenaline flying with aerobatics was a nice touch.

The story is well written and covers the entire gamut of what aviation can actually be like. I really enjoyed the book! Granted, I read this book myself and did not share it with a child as is intended. But from a professional pilot perspective, it was delightfully entertaining and representative.

The Tale of Tango Paul E Hohmann 9781493163687 Books Reviews

This is a very informative story about a small airplane that has several different owners in his long life as a plane owned by weekend flyers, pilots in training, new pilots and stunt pilots. Tango has the opportunity to see so many different areas of the country. He learns to appreciate all his different experiences.

The Tale of Tango was an enjoyable book for children and adults to enjoy together. There were alternating pages of pictures and text. The pages with text were full pages so they may be a bit daunting for newer readers.

There was a lot of interesting information about aviation for readers in the story. The explanations were simply given and easily understood. This is a great book for helping children learn more about flying and some of the vocabulary that goes along with it.

I thought that The Tale of Tango was an excellently written book for children and adults to share. I gave it a rating of 5 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the author who provided a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion is not required. All thoughts are my own.

The Tale of Tango
Author, Paul E. Hohmann
Illustrated By; Ivan Earl Aguilar
Book Review; By JR Hafer, aviation writer

The Tale of Tango is a children’s book with an aviation theme. It is penned by an Inventor, Engineer and Pilot from Greenville, South Carolina who has a flair for writing interesting and instructive children’s stories as well.

A graduate of Clemson University, Paul holds owns several U.S. patents and trademarks as an Inventor. With that being said he can now claim to be a talented published author too.

The Tale of Tango is Illustrated by Ivan Earl Aguilar. In my opinion the level of illustrations could have been stepped up a little, (or maybe not), depending upon the age level of the children being targeted. There is no age level indicated, for which the book is written. This kid (me) enjoyed the book at his advanced age! Then again, If being read to children of pre-school then perhaps the illustrations are right on!

The story is a simple one and though it has an aviation theme does not get bogged down in technical details that would bore children. The simplicity of the story does not dilute the strong learning message within the story. Kids will learn (sub mentally) several meaningful lessons from this book.

As adults reading this book, these lessons are so subtle you don’t realize you have actually run across the lessons, until after you have read the book, then find yourself thinking about what you have read, then you realize, Ah ha! There is a strong message in this story!

Lessons like Change is not always bad and are always opportunities to learn and experience new things. You never can judge people by their appearance. Facing fears is the only way to get past them. Things never stay the same. One must go out into the world to find out what is expected of them. We always learn different things from different people. This book has so much to teach in its 20 pages it is unbelievable.

I strongly recommend this book. If you have a preschool age child in your family this book should be read to them over and over again. This will become their favorite story. Buy several of them and give them to other’s for their children. Wow, it is that powerful, in this writer’s opinion. When you read it for the first time, you will see the simplicity. But after you think about it for a while, you will see the genius in the creation of the story and the writing of the story. I give it 10 Thumbs up! Five Stars! Get it now!

Helps kids understand they can deal with changing situations without getting scared or worried. They really root for Tango to find a happy home. Cute artwork helps give children a reference to events in the story.
The Tale of Tango is a sweet story about a little airplane who is apprehensive about taking on new challenges. It's a bit under-illustrated but a very nice story. If you are a GA pilot/enthusiast/"Airplane Geek", this book is a must-read for your kids!
We just love this book in our house! My four year old son loves it because it's entertaining - it is his first selection off the book shelf each night for story time. I love it as a mom because the story has such a positive message and keeps him engaged from start to finish. It's also been awesome to see how this book has sparked such an interest in aviation in him! (And I have to admit, I'm learning new things right along with my little guy!) Highly recommend this book.
Easy to read and great illustrations. I keep it in the waiting room in my studios and the kids love it while they're waiting for their appointments.
I am a flight instructor and I think this is a cute book for kids. Reading it from the perspective of how the airplane thinks is really clever and it passes on a good lesson to kids to not to be afraid of doing something new. Every day can be a new adventure if you just open yourself up to it. That thought could be a lesson for some adults as well. Loved the book.
